Currently studying for the AGI/FOI/Sport instructor written tests and had a question about required endorsements. I've been led to believe that you don't need an endorsement for the FOI written test or the AGI test, but was browsing AC 61-65 and came across this endorsement in the Sport CFI section:
Fundamentals of instructing knowledge test: § 61.405(a)(1).
I certify that [First name, MI, Last name] has received the required training in accordance
with § 61.405(a)(1). I have determined that [he or she] is prepared for the Fundamentals
of Instructing Knowledge Test.
Also saw an endorsement to take the Sport CFI written test, which I was told CFI writtens didn't need an endorsement either, but is it different for sport CFIs? And in the list of Sport CFI endorsements I saw a different endorsement for the spin training, would I use this one rather than the normal CFI spin endorsement? Thanks in advance.

Re: Required Endorsements Question
You are correct that CFI certificates issued under Part 61 Subpart K (the Sport CFI rules) have different endorsement requirements from those issued under Subpart H (the traditional CFI rating). The language of the required endorsenents can be found in AC 61-65, as well as the NAFI guide to endorsements.
BTW, if you plan to become a CFI (of any type) and are not already a member, I would recommend that you join the National Assiciation of Flight Instructors. That above-mentioned endorsement booklet alone is worth the cost of membership.

As a further note: although you can post just about anything on the Hangar Talk section of this site, we do have a separate Ask the Instructor forum here, set aside specifically for CFI-related discussions. You're welcome to post to it.

Re: Required Endorsements Question
I suggest you check with the proctor where you plan to take the knowledge test. They have a booklet that guides them on which test require an endorsement, and it may be based on which ratings you already hold.
I had also heard that you don't need an endorsement to take a CFI knowledge test, but found out otherwise last Summer. I am already a CFI, and wanted to do a CFI Glider add on knowledge test, and according to their book it required an endorsement, which I didn't have. I got it straightened out with a little delay and took the test. It wouldn't have been a big deal except the testing center is 2 hours away from me.

Re: Required Endorsements Question
I found this which I believe is what you're talking about, it goes over all the written tests and what is needed for authorization. In the flight instructor tests it mentions flight and ground instructor certificates don't need any endorsements while a sport pilot flight instructor written does on the other hand.3Dreaming wrote:I suggest you check with the proctor where you plan to take the knowledge test.
