I think I've posted here that Karen and I bought some property alongside an airport in Lenoir City, TN.
We're in the process of building a pole barn alongside the runway. Now that the weather has been decent, things have started rolling along.
I flew Karen up this morning to spend a couple days with the kids and grandkids.
Here's the state of progress of the pole barn:
And a short video of an overfly, landing and takeoff from Big T Airport (80TN) earlier today:

As an aside, 4 lots still available. No personal interest - just looking for good neighbors!

Uhh that was one rough field for landing there - sounded like your wheels were about to part their ways

Re: Pole Barn progress!
Yeah, the little Sky Arrow wheels (5" mains and wheelbarrow nose) are not exactly designed for a rough field.
Seem to be taking the abuse so far. I'd love to go to 6" mains, but the cost to do so would be pretty high and cost some airspeed at cruise.
Has anyone heard of taller profile tires that could be fitted to my 5" rims?

Eddie, do you keep an airport car up there? I suppose you do.

We bought a 2006 Honda Ridgeline with 182,000 miles on it for $7k. It’s been solidly reliable and very handy so far.

Would that Honda be able to drag a roller up and down that runway?FastEddieB wrote:Yep!TimTaylor wrote:Eddie, do you keep an airport car up there? I suppose you do.

Don't know.Jim Hardin wrote:

We've agreed to help maintain the runway, and the airport owner has a nice Kubota we can use.
I still think our own tractor may be in the cards. Karen thinks they're sexy!
Re: Pole Barn progress!
Actually, Eddie, she probably thinks you're sexy driving a tractor.

Are you planning to live there full time at some point?
BTW, I *love* that dogleg approach through the notch in the trees...those are some of the most fun approaches to fly in an LSA.

Long term, maybe.MrMorden wrote:Are you planning to live there full time at some point?
As we get up in years, we may want to be closer to our kids for when we may need assistance. Plus, as I near my 70’s, being closer to quality health care may get to be important.
That’s a relatively new skill for me. Most of my flying career has been based in FL, where the need for such approaches are effectively nonexistent. I think my first exposure was at Blue Ridge Skyport (57GA). Felt weird at first, but gets to be familiar pretty quickly.BTW, I *love* that dogleg approach through the notch in the trees...those are some of the most fun approaches to fly in an LSA.
Here’s that approach, starting at about 4:30:

75' wide and 40' deep. The "pole barn" dimensions will end up 60' x 40'. That leaves us a 15' x 40' area for a small sitting area and bathroom.David wrote:Nice - what are the dimensions? Keep the pics coming during the project
The 42' bifold door is due to arrive tomorrow, and siding/metal roof starting soon.
We're going red siding, with dark gray roof and garage doors. Something like this (we hope):

Not addressed. We’re committed to eventually building a small house. We’re currently spending a fair amount of time there in our travel trailer. We made a fenced yard so our dogs can run:TimTaylor wrote:Eddie, do your covenants allow you to spend nights, weekends, or weeks there?
