Found this a couple of years ago. Makes for an interesting read, even though it is pretty hard on my favorite airplane.
Beware the "safe" Airplane

Re: Beware the "safe" Airplane
I am not in position to evaluate all the solidly forgotten historic curios in the article, but the Cirrus section was full of misleading disinformation, so frankly I doubt the rest was any better.
Re: Beware the "safe" Airplane
Definitely a good read. The author displays a very common ignorance of the LSA rules, when he says of the Cub:
Neither being small nor being low-powered makes an aircraft qualify as an LSA. Of course, certain models of Cub are LSAs. But they aren't, and can't be, "registered" as such. (so small and low-powered that today, many of them are legally classified as eligible for registration as Light Sport Aircraft They have standard airworthiness certificates, so they are (forgive me, those of you who oppose the term) Sport Pilot Eligible Aircraft.so small and low-powered that today, many of them are legally classified as eligible for registration as Light Sport Aircraft

Those J3s are definitely LSAs. My point is, they aren't registered as LSAs, they just are LSAs.SportPilot wrote:The J3's at Jack Brown's are light sport eligible with Continental 0200 100hp engines.

Of course you do. I was just pointing out that the author of that article doesn't. Sorry for the thread drift -- we can no resume discussing this unfortunate accident.SportPilot wrote:I know that.
