Can my sport pilot student use his private pilot student certificate?

On September 1, 2004 the FAA inaugurated a new pilot certificate dubbed the "sport pilot" that makes learning to fly easier and more affordable that ever. Intended primarily for recreational use, you can now become a pilot with as little as 20 hours of flight instruction! In addition, the FAA also created a new category of affordable "light-sport aircraft"!

True, but I was talking about my DPE duties. The FAA Order under which a DPE operates makes it very clear that we are not exercising CFI privileges when acting as a DPE. We are not allowed to give instruction. As independent contractors providing an FAA quality control function for hire, we are engaged in a commercial operation. Thus, we cannot do this under Basic Med (unless FAA writes an exception into the rules or thru legal interpretation, as they did for CFIs).

Because someone else asked about it. Newcomers to our forum don't always read back through the archives.

I don't see any questions about it. And, my post is about CFI's, not examiners.

Yes, and what you said about CFIs is completely correct. I was answering the question up-thread about DPEs, and quoting you to emphasize that it's different from what applies to CFIs. Sorry if I generated confusion.

I'm still not seeing the question you were answering unless you're going back to January.
