As much as everyone hopes that nothing like this will ever happen, it seems that there is almost inevitable tragedy surrounding events just by the sheer number of participants and flights. It is something like the big Harley-Davidson rally in Sturges. Thousands of bikes attend annually. Inveitably something tragic happens either at the event or coming and going to and from the event.
Weatherwise, today, Friday, was the best flying day of the event thus far this week. Previous days were a bit cloudy with marginal ceilings. No report of the incident indicates any traffic conflict. All accounts mention some kind of spin-stall behavior. I heard three different accounts of possible causes. Investigation pending.

Re: 2015 Expo
Several companies that were unable to get their planes to the show earlier in the week were able to fly in today, including Sonex and Sky Arrow. Attendance today was increased and tomorrow, Saturday should be even higher in attendance. All major hotels in Sebring are sold out due to the Sport Plane Expo combined with events at Sebring Raceway.
Let's pray for safety.

A little more info about the pilot and quotes about the accident from a family member:

Re: 2015 Expo
Thanks for the link.
I did not witness what led up to the accident. Someone shouted something and I looked over and saw maybe the last turn of what was apparently a spin. My view was blocked by some vehicles so I did not see the actual impact, which is just as well.
I had just videoed a walk around of the entire show with my GoPro mounted on my cap. I had turned it off about 10 minutes prior to the accident. I'm sure someone got it though.

Re: 2015 Expo
Those of you who were there, what were your impressions of Sport Expo this year?
Fast Eddie B, did I understand correctly that Sky Arrow was exhibiting there?
Thanks.
Ira

Re: 2015 Expo
They had a Sky Arrow display, but no Sky Arrow due to the inclement weather making a trip down from Atlanta problematical.
Here's all of the outdoor portion of the show in one 5 minute video.

If you see something interesting, just pause.

Thanks for duct taping your GoPro to your forehead, Eddie. You'll need to change your title text, however. This was Sport Aviation Expo, not Light Sport Expo (was not restricted merely to LSA)

To save me time and hassle, maybe just add a comment to that effect?
Re: 2015 Expo
What kind of aircraft is the red & white high wing at the 2:50 mark? I don't recall seeing that one on day 1 or 2.FastEddieB wrote:If you see something interesting, just pause.
