Composites & Tie-Downs

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Composites & Tie-Downs

I’ve heard conflicting opinions about tying down composite aircraft outside. Is it safe to tide him down outside long-term?

In the sailplane world any composite sailplanes tied down outside get full covers. Wings and fuselage. Have heard full covers do a fine job of protecting the aircraft. On the other hand many sailplanes are easier to take apart and put back in the trailer then to put full covers on and off.

Since I paid a lot of money for my composite plane ... I would not unless I was living in a dry, desert-like climate and then only under full covers to prevent long term UV damage.

Btw since you are considering a CTSW , If I were you I would head to http://ctflier.com/ and ask all your questions there ...
