Currently in Henderson, TX after setting off from Macon, GA. 11 hours flying time so far. Looks like I’ll be sitting out today as a line of storms passes through. Strong headwinds means I can only do 100-120 nm legs. Staying at 500-1000’ AGL keeps the headwinds down. Been amazingly smooth so far, but I think that’s going to change from West Texas to Arizona.

Spent Thanksgiving night sleeping on an FBO couch after eating instant grits and pork scratchings from a vending machine. Now THAT’S aviation!

Planning on loosely following interstate 20 then 10 towards Tuscon? Looks like enough holes to get around the airspace and restricted areas with no transponder. Any trouble following that close to the US border? West of Pecos and East of ElPaso will be a little lonely. Really neat trip to fly. How have the temperatures been?

Glad it’s working out for you so far - certainly an adventure you’ll never forget. Sorry we didn’t get a chance to meet.

In my Air Force days, we used to call a coke and a candy bar "breakfast". But that was 50 years (and 50 pounds) ago. So, nobody starves to death on that diet.

Temperatures have been OK so far. I’m wearing 2-6 layers, depending on the temp. Been very comfortable so far.

Sitting here in a thunderstorm in Henderson, TX, I’m realizing that the easy part is behind me! I plan on taking your I-20 then I-10 advice, and limiting the legs to 80-100 nm. The turbulence and surface/winds aloft from West Texas onwards are pretty vicious right now. I’m hoping they drop by tomorrow.

Super friendly little FBO here. As I travel, I’m finding extreme hospitality among the aviation community, apart from some of the youngsters working the ramps at the FBOs.

Hambone, one thing is for sure: this is one memorable adventure. I hope you're taking some photos for posterity along the way.

Hey I don't remember if this was mentioned or not, but when you are checking your oil, especially after you have had a little longer layover like this one, wipe the dipstick and recheck the quantity. For what ever reason the oil likes to climb the dipstick showing a higher than actual oil level.
