True. Rotax neither sells nor specifically authorizes them. Of course, in an experimental, they're perfectly legal. And some SLSA manufacturers install them, or may issue an LoA for you to install one, which is also perfectly legal. But, if the spring fails and you lose all oil, the engine is going to seize. Could that maybe be why Rotax doesn't install them at the factory?
What do you think of the Sky Arrow’s setup?

A hose stays permanently attached to the oil tank drain point with no valve at all, just a plug installed and hose-clamped at the end of the hose. At oil changes, just route the hose downward and remove the plug. Seems like an elegant solution with little to go wrong.

I haven't changed its oil yet, so I don't know how well it works. Ask me when I get up to 50 hours.

Phase 1 40 hour fly off complete! Love it! Too much fun!

It took 6 days...including a no-fly wx day.

So that was eight hours of flight per flying day. You must be exhausted!
Congratulations. Fly safely, and frequently.

Thanks Dr, but, at the risk of doing math in public in front of a Dr...it was only an average of 5.8 per day.
---
Calculations and proofs:
11 hours on the Sling when I arrived plus the 29 hours I flew equals 40.
40 - 11 = 29 / 5 = 5.8
---
Happy tired!

First up, I break the 25nm bubble I have been living in!!!!! Yesterday I flew KCFS to KGRR (1.0 hours) in the Sling to pickup my son getting off his Southwest flight. Signature FBO took great care of us...free cookies, free courtesy car to pickup my son, etc.... Bite to eat, jump in the Sling, my son taxis and flies us back to KCFS for pattern work. Next we hop down to D95 to do a few x-wind landings and have dinner with MSS friends. After dinner, jump back in the Sling for a night flight back to KCFS. Great day! Today, no flying due the Sling getting its IFR cert at D95.

I feel like a broken record...ANOTHER great day at MSS! Advanced handling ride first...great day to be upside-down! Run down to D95 (Lapeer) to have lemo jacks installed, formation flying to D95, jump back to KCFS.

Tomorrow is the DAY! We are leaving Caro to take the long journey home to FL, with my CFII son providing adult supervision. :( 8)

Not sure where we will go on first day?...I am thinking about KBNA.

We shall see!

What a great solution for an ELSA or E-AB , Shawn. Thanks for sharing it.
Here's a quick pic of what I did to the Saf-Air quick drain for a safety measure against the spring letting go.

How exciting to finally travel home to Florida. A quick stop in Nashville will be fun, it's a great place to visit.
