Paul Hamilton is one of the first persons to become a DPE (Designated Pilot Examiner) for sport pilots. As a full-time author and sport pilot expert, he writes books and produces DVD's for Aviation Supplies and Academics (ASA). Now Paul has graciously agreed to answer your questions here. Thanks Paul! Ah, you posted a picture of my baby. Thank you, Eddie! (you'll notice that the hood is up, because it was raining).
In fact, my father learned English (or what passes for English) in Liverpool. Thus, most Americans couldn't tell that he was Polish (and most Brits couldn't understand him).

At least he's not a silly Canadian. They don't know what they're talking a boot.

I'm not certain if an S-LSA is legally placed in the "Certificated" family of aircraft but I know all EAB's are NOT certificated and they all have a pink Airworthiness Certificated.
* In my "old-school" vernacular, for an aircraft to be certificated, its manufacture must be covered by a published FAA Type Certificate.
* In more recent reg's, a plane on the ramp that can be rented needs to be a certificated aircraft unless it had a Letter of Deviation Authority (LODA).
S-LSA's can be rented-out.
I'm leaning in favor of S-LSA's fitting the de-facto definition of a certificated aircraft.
