That's still a 23% increase this year (which seems to be about par for the current market).

Yes but still considerably below what I was paying just three years ago.
So, in my case, the ‘shocker’ was paying less than previously.

Just paid my 2020 premium, it went from $1140 last year to $1277 this year. This is a 12% increase -- not terrible IMO, considering how many additional dollars were printed this year.

My premium for 2020/21 renews this month and the quote is $3,136 which includes:

$130,000 Ground & Flight zero deductible at $2,839
$1,000,000 Liability at $296

The agency is Falcon Insurance (through EAA) and the Carrier is AIG

I have around 220 hours as a private pilot and have never had any claims.

Previous premiums:
2019/20 $2,987
2018/19 $2,431
2017/18 $2,836.

Am I getting penalized for being old?

I don't know. Paul. Are you old?

Most likely, we are all being penalized for being pilots.

72, but don't tell anybody.... I started lessons at 69 and passed my check-ride at 70. Never too late to start something new.

I know someone who is considering learning to fly who is concerned that he is too old. He's only 50. I've known people to start lessons at 80 and they love it. Flying is not a young man's hobby.

Ok, Tom - flying is for young men so long as their dads own airplanes.

He is an aircraft owner, and it is not my airplane that he flies the most. He mows grass to pay for the fuel.

That's good . . . as most millennials don't even know how to start a mower.
