GoPro Video Question

Post by JJ Campbell »

I use my GoPro Hero 8 in Light Sport, to capture my landings. The problem is if I don't click the recording on when I am 10 miles away from the airport, I get busy with landing procedures and forget to turn it on. However, when I turn it on that far away, it reaches the 4K file limit (about 8 minutes) and I am lucky to even get a brief glimpse of the airport. I'd have to click on record again to get it started and at that point I am definitely too busy to think about doing that.

Does anyone know if there a way for the camera to start a new file to keep recording until I stop it, or the battery runs out?

I use a Hero 7. I'm not sure I understand your issue. In video mode, it continues from one file to another. Each file is a little under 4 GB in size when I record in 1440p resolution. I usually start mine before I taxi and don't turn it off until I taxi back to the hangar (never know what I might miss otherwise). I can't find any setting that says it should stop recording at the end of a file.

Thank you. I tried it yesterday and it worked fine. I don't know what I did wrong previously.

An alternative solution is to carry a videographer in the other seat. I'm sure you must know folks who would volunteer!
