Consumer reports has done a study on the actual bendi-ness of the iPhone 6*, and it seems that it isn't as flexible as many thought. I'll admit, I'm a bit more cautious with this one than with my 5s, however the screen resolution plus the fact that it doesn't cover nearly as much panel space has made it already worthwhile in the sport cruiser/WT-9.

There always will be the Apple vs Android debate, just like Piper vs Cessna (hey, it's an aviation board....), and I do believe that they both have their perks. My company doesn't give me much choice as to what I get, so it's sort of like asking 'oh, which iPhone do you want? the 6 or the 6+? My money went with the larger battery life, and the extended warranty so that *if* it bends, I do go into the queue, and drop back to my 5s for the time being. Let's face it, if Samsung had the cult following that Apple did, they'd have supply issues on their latest gadget as well... nothing more than supply and demand here. For what it's worth, the 6+ is the only one with the supply issues, the 6 was actually not sold out at my local ATT store later Friday evening when I was looking around for a case. It's also worth mentioning that I have had an iPhone since it was originally released. I did a calculation when the 5 came out to determine my financial level of vendor lock-in... between apps that I have, and subscriptions that I have on the iPhone that cannot be purchased for android, the software cost of replacement would be a bit over $1,000.00 for me to simply switch to android, regardless of the phone/plan cost changes, and that doesn't include the rest of my family with whom I share iTunes accounts with.

So far, here's the pro and con list from my perspective:

Pro:

Screen size as a mini-tablet is just about perfect (I think Samsung calls it a Phablet.. which I like)
Battery life is incredible
Feels decent in the hand - curved edges make it easier to hold
A8 processor is a beast
Doesn't heat up quickly while using ForeFlight
GPS resolution in areas previously showing 10m can show 5m (at some places) but never less than 5m
Camera is truly amazing
bump to 64gb instead of 32gb at the 'comparable' price point
Apples leather/silicon (I bought the leather) case is the perfect size to provide just a bit of extra rigidity, as well as still let it easily fit in a front pocket (Jeans, shorts) and feel secure. I can fit my keys into the same pocket, not the sunglasses though.


Con:

Size - holding it to my face I feel sorta dumb
Vibrate has a metallic noise that can be disturbing in a very quiet room
Feel a need to have a case on it at ALL times
Can't easily type one-handed and hold the phone at the same time
Lock button has moved to directly across from the 'volume up' button - if you press both at the same time it just volume-up's, doesn't lock
Putting it in a large rubber case makes it HUGE, and basically doesn't fit in a pocket along with anything else anymore

Also - the X-mount that I have from RAM DOES fit the 5.5 - I did put a zip-tie around two of them to hold them into a more open position so I can slide it in and out of the mount with one hand. Outside of that, it's pretty perfect.

Hopefully this mini-review (opinion) helps somebody out there.

I'm still on the fence but leaning towards the 6+, mainly for the camera and battery.

Sure would like it to fit into a conventional work shirt pocket with a case, but I may need to find another mode of carry.

I evaluate technology as function over form. Samsung w/Android definitely provide a quality product. In my case, there are a handful of apps that are requirements for me that are only available in the iOS ecosystem. In the aviation apps world, there are more choices in IOS with Android closing the gap in the last 18 months.

In general I view this debate as which form factor works for a backup device then is your favorite set of apps available for that form factor. If both of these allow you a choice between Android and IOS, then go with what you think is cool since both directions provide good products.

Apple users ignore reality. They pay more money for less product. Why does it matter? Because Apple sues companies to keep their inferior products front and center. And for some irrational reason some people just like doing it wrong.

You make several very good points, however there is also a good bit of 'opinion' in there, also - the thread is entitled 'iPhone 6+', thus asking for a review of the iPhone, compared to other iPhones. Please do not attack my post and (in my opinion) well written review which has already helped at least one person.

Agreed - They do provide quality - my issue is that the general applications that I use on a daily basis simply are lagging in the Android (despite the restrictive nature of the App Store w/ iOS). Gaps are closing, however the monetary vendor lock in has already pretty much sealed the deal for me. Unless some major upgrades begin to be subscription based (ForeFlight already is, which helps), then I'm going to be on Apple for a long while.
