At least he stopped at the stop sign. Where I live they seem to think its a go sign. The owner almost seems happy it crashed he must of had good insurance on it and is seeing green.

langj - I'm not quite sure where you get the point that the owner seemed happy, and quite frankly I find your comment a little distasteful. I admit that I'm probably over-reacting a bit. I have a little over a 100hrs in that plane, shared a hangar with it and I'm very sad to see it go.

I also know the CFI and he's a heck of a guy. This accident effected a great many people - not just the ones in the plane.

Brian,

Do you know if the aircraft had it's 5 year rubber replacement lately?

Actually it just had the whole engine replaced. If the new engine had all of 20 hrs on it I'd be surprised.

I apologize for my comment. I just thought his reaction to it was weird. However, we all deal with things differently.

I think the important thing to note here is the condition of the wreckage. Firewall forward is gone. Wings are crushed. Tail is broken off. Cabin is intact. This speaks very well to the crashworthiness of the SportStar.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.
