Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

If no ELT consider a SPOT or Spidertrax personal locator beacon. There are other brands too.

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

I have been using a RG88 coax cable with BNC connector into the handheld. Connect that to a normal aircraft antenna. Hopefully there is room to mount one on the center section fairing or behind cockpit. shielded ignition harness helps a lot. The Slick mags will have P lead filtering using the conden...

try the n number search. See if anything comes up. I think I figured out the N number from photos but I did not get any results.

Page 14 is the absolute best article I have ever read on the propeller hub maintenance for the small continentals.

If you have a flange crank without the removable prop flange hub then disregard.

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Put the registration number in the FAA website and see what comes up. Searching Corben no results N number ending in Hotel. https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/nnum_inquiry.aspx It should have a pink copy of the operating limitations. This will be in place of a normal certified airplane airwort...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Is this the same airplane? http://corbenbabyace.weebly.com/ace-projects.html Best I can find is redline airspeed is 110 MPH UK flight test report. The Corben that used to be here has stiff ailerons also but flew ok. http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/2017/Magazine/Apr/Corben.pdf

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Of Course the one in the EAA museum has the same lack of markings https://www.eaa.org/eaa-museum/museum-collection/aircraft-collection-folder/1955-corben-lambert-baby-ace-d---n9017c The Aeronca 7AC Champ has similar Scott engine gauges. I’d say try to copy the markings from those but I did not see m...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

I’m always amazed by this. The airplane appears to have been flying for years with no range marks on any instruments.

Who has been doing the condition inspections or what DAR inspected it in the first place.

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Ask the owner because it depends a lot on how the windshield is built but expect most wind to come from behind down your neck. It can be quite comfortable if your seat height and windshield are pretty good. I have cabin heat in the FlyBaby which works good enough for a couple more weeks in the fall....

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Here’s some other data. Around the pattern doing full stop landings I burn about 3.9 GPH. Cruise at 2150 I burned 4.5-4.6 GPH. This is with a Sensenich wood 72 42 propeller. Stromberg carb For starting: If primer 1-2 shots and pull through 4-5 blades throttle cracked it will start usually. With no p...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

A few questions, if I may: 1) Which handheld comm radio, headset, and external antenna did you use? I’ve got an Icom A-24 with a headset jack and push to talk on the stick. The antenna is just a stainless wire com antenna mounted behind the pilot seat to the headrest. 2) What about the cockpit cover...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

You just don’t know for sure what was installed unless the logs have a good parts list or you can talk to who built the engine. 3d Dreamer is correct it is 2350RPM limit. I was thinking of the static RPM limit of 2300. 2150 is from the J-3 manual which says to cruise there and do not run full thrott...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Yes that is true for the 75,85,90,O-200 but the A-65 has different rods and they are subject to a max continuous RPM restriction of 2150 Different parts inside and different propeller. The Sensenich Prop is limited to 2300RPM based on laminations and diameter, If a 72CK42. Take a look at the A-75 co...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

I’ve had good luck with the Strombergs but the float height is critical. The rubber tip needles can swell up and make it quit so I would make absolutely sure that one is not installed. I have seen where the logs did not match so I would plan on having the carb checked unless absolutely sure the rubb...
