You might try Just Plane Tint. The universal plane tint might work for the skylight at a pretty reasonable price.MrMorden wrote:I wouldn't mind a very short version of that to put up in the skylight of my CT.

Re: Are icebox "air conditioners" worth it?
I’m out of the LSA world now but use a Switchbox Icebox in my current plane. Remote control and comes with its own battery or can run off ships power (or both since it has a switch). It uses a heat exchanger and a full load of ice lasts for 90 mins or so. The battery lasts at least that long as well...

4 Rotax Oil Filters PN: 825016
I was straightening the hangar today and came across a box of 4 Rotax Oil Filters (PN 825016). These run $19.95 at Lockwood, shipping was around $13 so a total of $93.75 (for 4). I'll sell them for $65 including shipping.

Re: Light Sport Limitations
Like Paul, I've flown fast and complex which suited my mission at the time then I upgraded to Light Sport for around 11 years. Flew as a PP typically with a valid 3rd class medical then with Basic Med. My schedule was very flexible so I was able to make most planned trips albeit with a day or two sh...

Ham - if you need an ADS-B/AHRS device to finish your trip, Adventure Pilot stocks the Stratux (a low cost alternative) and is located at TKI, on the north edge of the DFW airspace.

Re: Feasibility Question
Bryan, I was going to do the Tail Beacon for ADS-B but now I'm faced with $5000 of new equipment OR training my daughter without ever going near Class C or B airspace. You might consider going with an Appareo's Stratus ESG transponder for around $2800 which is 'only' one AMU more than a tailBeacon. ...

Re: The new Sport Pilot Rule Changes
Although I tend to agree with you, please don't blame the CFI or the DPE. We are all required to train to, and test to, the full PTS. We don't get to pick and choose. I think DPE's are as frustrated as the rest of us. I was talking to a DPE at Oshkosh on the instrument checkride. He has been workin...

Re: ICAO flight plan format
Paul -- you beat me to it! Basically, a VFR flight plan is mostly informational -- provides a paper trail that you had a plan and probably followed the other planning regs and is used for SAR. You are not going to get different services based on the equipage you list. An IFR flight plan is a bit dif...

Re: ADSB for Cessna Skycatcher 162
Technically yes, a LOA would be required because you are modifying the wiring harness from something other than what the factory delivered. Is it ridiculous? Yup, but I didn't make the rules. Did you get an LOA when you did this for your Sting? (I'm assuming we are talking about your last plane) I ...

Re: ADSB for Cessna Skycatcher 162
For the 39 there is no “serial cable” hanging off the unit. There is a bare wire connector that you buy from Garmin (I made mine) that again needs to be integrated into the aircraft wire harness to transmit the serial data to make it work with the GDU unit, a LOA would be needed for this also. The ...

Re: ADSB for Cessna Skycatcher 162
I also used the GDL-39 for IN. I know the GDU has 3 channels of RS-232 data in/out but I guess Cessna didn't add that into their SB, huh? Too bad it doesn't have bluetooth otherwise you would be all set. I wonder..... The 39R is installed so would need manufacturer approval. The portable GDL-39 and...

Re: GPS Working is now your responsibility
I guess I'm an optimist. I expect EAA is already involved to get clarification like they did for the original ADS-B certification language. Remember the FAA added something like "...or designed to meet the specification of TSO.....".

Re: GPS Working is now your responsibility
There is an exemption already in place through 2024 that the airlines will no doubt use: In April 2015, Airlines for America (A4A) petitioned the FAA, on behalf of A4A member airlines, for an exemption from the Navigation Accuracy Category for Position (NACp) and Navigation Integrity Category (NIC) ...
