Oral Exam Prep

All of the above suggestions are good. What text are you using? ASA and Paul Hamilton make a great oral exam prep book for all certificates. These books also make for good flight review material. Where is your CFI in this process? Have done a mock oral and practical exam with him, or better yet... a...

Finding an examiner

Try asking one of the local "Private Pilot" DPE to get Sport added to his/her privileges.

What type of airplane do you own? Ask your local dealer for a referral to a DPE.

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus(or at least an LSA Mall

I checked with Dan Johnson, and he assured me there is a large LSA area set up. He even sent me the diagram.

Enter the Main gate, and turn left. Spaces 33-37 for the Mall.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Standardized training

As all good flight instructors know, a standardized training curriculum will turn out a common and uniform product. I.E. competent and safe pilots for a particular aircraft, and flying in general. There are differences in flying any make and model. Cessna and Cirrus have led the way in the standard ...

Rent and flight train in a Flight Design CT

Sounds like someone had a bad day. I have never seen a CT have a tail strike. I strongly encourage anyone renting a Light Sport Aircraft to get trained by a factory certified flight instructor. You can find a list of CT instructors here http://www.flightdesignusa.com/dealers.asp Flight Design Pilot ...

Getting your Sport Pilot license in 20 days

The regulations say you need 15 hours of dual and 5 hours of solo flight to be minimally qualified to take your practical exam. How do you feel? Do you think you could safely handle the airplane in various weather conditions at this time? What if you had your little brother with you, do you feel qua...

Mastering S Turns

Do you have a GPS in your airplane? This is a great tool for visualizing what you are, or did, in your manuever. Use the track history to follow along or to review after the lesson. Even a hand held GPS on a string on your neck can be used for this purpose. What is your altitude when you do these S ...

180 on the rule

I received the same email from EAA. I also received this one from the FAA when I wrote to them. It looks like I am either wrong, or they haved changed their rules since I last looked into this. Either way, the short answer is "good to go" with a SP CFI for the Sport Pilot rating and that y...

http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgFar.nsf/FARSBySectLookup/61.183 A SP CFI who is a 150 hour Private Pilot most likely does not have the instrument rating, and certainly does not have the Commercial Pilot certificate that a CFI is requried to have. Therefore, how can he sign you ...

"I actually read that the other day. Lucky for me my SP instructor holds his Private Pilots license with 800 hours. He is a Sport CFI but I went over it with him and he said I was good to go. " I think you need to revisit this. You are not good to go if your instructor is only a SP CFI an...

Sport to Private in 5 hours or so

We have had students go from Sport to Private. Due to the way we train, we only had to add the night and instrument hours. Our regular Sport Pilots are trained like we would train a Private Pilot (towers, Class B, long cross country flights, weather, safety, CRM, etc). Our goal is to turn out safe a...
