Re: Winter Advice

Im lucky enough to have a hanger. That said, I still have the same issues as you. I keep the tanks filled with 100LL, instead of 91 no ethanol unleaded, as the octane level will degrade less over time than the Mo gas. I keep it hooked up to a battery tender, which, because I’m in a hanger can toggl...

Do you have any recommendations from Amazon or Sporty's?

Winter Advice

I have a 912 ULS at a tiedown at KJYO. I don't like to fly unless the temperature is >40° and because of my canvas covers and my age (78) I don't like the surface wind to be >10 knots. Needless to say, I don't get much flying done in the Winter. My question: How often should I go to the airport to s...

Sounds like a good idea. The more I thought about it and reflecting on the fact that the FAA lawyers go over everything, the more convince I became that often is not all and should is not shall.

Re: Reinstalling an ELT

ELSA, yes. SLSA, maybe, CFR 43 appendix A does not give the privilege, so look to your maintenance manual. If the ELT task in the checklist say they can be done by the owner/pilot, then yes. If it says a minimum of a LSRM, then no. I just checked the CTLS MM, and it calls for a LSRM. If you have a ...

Reinstalling an ELT

ACK just returned my E-04 ELT after replacing one of the circuit boards. As the Owner/Operator can I legally reinstall it and make the logbook entry?

Re: CO Leak

You may wish to view my webinar "Surviving Carbon Monoxide," describing a similar problem I encountered about two years ago, and what I did about it. Video at: https://avsport.org/webinars/videos/co.mp4 Please don't take offence but can you give me the time stamp for where to find the sim...

Re: CO Leak

The muffler needs to be removed and pressure tested. That is the only way to find the leaks. I have one off a CT sent out right now with two spots that were submitting CO into the cabin heat system. I'll ask to get that done during my next conditional. In case the IAs don't know already, where do y...

Re: CO Leak

Well, I could never keep CO2 levels down to zero - during run up or right after landing, it goes up to about 15-20 PPM for a short time ( a few minutes ) - I thought it was fairly normal. I could live with that, but I am getting escalating levels during cruise. If I close both portals to get some h...

CO Leak

My SLSA Tecnam Eaglet has CO leaking into the cabin. I have a CO monitor and I can keep the level down to zero. Unfortunately, to do this I have to keep the two small portals in the side windows open. In the Summer this is not too bad but, in the Winter, I get very cold and uncomfortable. For the la...

GoPro Video Question

I use my GoPro Hero 8 in Light Sport, to capture my landings. The problem is if I don't click the recording on when I am 10 miles away from the airport, I get busy with landing procedures and forget to turn it on. However, when I turn it on that far away, it reaches the 4K file limit (about 8 minute...

Re: Tire Inflator

If you really want to go cheap I have found that a bicycle pump from Walmart works great for less than $20. The tires are small and the pressures are low so it is a very easy job for a pump. I used to haul my mini-compressor out to pump up my tires. One day I needed some air and didn't bring the co...

Thanks, Dr. Seti. I will purchase the one I was looking at.

Tire Inflator

I want to buy a small portable tire inflator that I can keep in the trunk of my car so I can drive out to my tie-down and inflate the tires on my light sport when the pressure gets a bit low. I found a nice unit on Amazon for about $40. I asked the seller about an extension for the power cord, and t...
