Thanks for posting this Ed, have rode the “Tail of the Dragon” several times over the years. Nice to see it from above.

Re: It’s Cold...in the Northeast

Wish they made an adjustable shutter like Dave has for the -12, for my SLING. Make one. :) The design doesn’t lend itself to an easy fix. I wish the factory would address the issue. Like my Diamond before it, with a Continental, the ROTAX in the SLING runs cooler than some other ROTAX equip’d aircr...

Re: It’s Cold...in the Northeast

I went up Friday for 45 minutes. Outside air temp was 30F, I put a second piece of aluminum tape across both radiators. Stayed local. On climb out, I watched outside air temp go to 32, then 40F. Got to FL035, I’m looking at 44F. Oil temp was stable at 170F, coolant at 146F. Wish they made an adjusta...

It’s Cold...in the Northeast

So, what’s the coldest temperature you’ve flown at? I always pre-heat below 40F and block my oil and coolant radiators off with aluminum tape, which never seems to be enough. I get little to no heat from the heater off the exhaust. Thinking of adding a heater, w/fan, off of the coolant return flow a...

Re: Are solid state circuit breakers any good?

The issue i have, if the box goes bad, you have the potential to loose everything. Not so with individual breakers. The monitoring is nice, but IMO, unwarranted for my application. That could also be true with individual breakers because a failure in the bundle of high current wires that go through...

Re: Are solid state circuit breakers any good?

Any other details about the problems he had that you could share? It would help me in making my decision. It was over two and a half years ago. All I recall, was it tripped constantly and not not at a good time. Like over water miles from land. Hey, bottom line, I’m sure the units are pretty solid ...

Re: Are solid state circuit breakers any good?

When I spec’d out my SLING, I went with standard circuit breakers rather than with a Vertical Power unit. At the time, one of the pilots from the around the world flight of the SLING, as well as a builder/owner, related problems they had with the units, which persuaded me to go the traditional rout...

Re: Light sport dying?

So... realistically, many new LSAs make terrific Light Sport single seaters? Well, at 855 lbs empty, my “cheat sheet” shows I can carry passengers reasonably well, as long as they’re reasonably svelte. https://live.staticflickr.com/5796/23159144630_b341f732fc.jpg At the end of the day, it’s nice to...

Re: 52 or 51mph max stall

I found a plane I want to buy. It’s a ZENITH 601 XLB with a lycoming 235. I asked the guy for the specs Max Gross: 1320 Landing Configuration Stall, 45mph Clean stall 52mph The FARs say max clean stall of 45 knots. 45knots = 51.7mph Will I have any problems flying and ensuring this plane? What’s do...

Re: Bristell NG5 Taildragger Option

Frankly , it would have made for a very nice LSA if it weren’t for a absolutely ridiculous price that is being asked for another mostly metal LSA that doesn’t do anything better than half a dozen other LSAs - what exactly do you get for $ 220k that you cannot get with, say $160k Sling 2 or a Flight...

Re: Status of US S-LSA Market

The Airplane Factory/SLING Aircraft is alive and doing very well in the US. Both kit and SLSA aircraft sales are strong. They added a Dealer Build center in the Northeast, Goodrich Aviation last year. Their flight school operation in Torrance is successful and there are prospects for a flight school...
