Re: Can convert LSA to E-LSA to fly faster than 120 kts.?

Maybe, maybe not. Not. And I'll send the first person that can show me paperwork to the contrary (ELSA -> Experimental Exhibition) dated 2016 or thereafter, for use other than called out in the FAR's, a dinner for two to Ruth Chris Steakhouse (or equivalent local establishment). No expiration date ...

Re: Can convert LSA to E-LSA to fly faster than 120 kts.?

That is why I stated that Exp-Exhibition gets suggested a lot.

If the mods are to improve performance to support an air show routine, or for a movie, yeah you could possibly get FSDO approval.

If the mods are to just get to the $100 burger faster, not going to happen.

Re: Can convert LSA to E-LSA to fly faster than 120 kts.?

I'll stand by my statement, and here's why... §21.191 Experimental certificates. Experimental certificates are issued for the following purposes: (a) Research and development. Testing new aircraft design concepts, new aircraft equipment, new aircraft installations, new aircraft operating techniques,...

Re: Can a designation be changed

The "Lil Rascal" is a sham. Doc Bailey is a snake oil salesman and leaves a path of broken promises and lies in his wake. His claims of converting existing Pitts and RV-4's to LSA aircraft are simply not possible, they do not meet the letter of the law as put forth in the FAR's.

Re: Can convert LSA to E-LSA to fly faster than 120 kts.?

Short answer, no. Long answer from the FAR's: §21.191 Experimental certificates. Experimental certificates are issued for the following purposes: (i) Operating light-sport aircraft. Operating a light-sport aircraft that— (2) Has been assembled— (i) From an aircraft kit for which the applicant can pr...

Re: Turbo-charging the 912ULS

Airplains has an STC to upgrade 172's from 160hp to 180hp. I had the Avcon STC on a 172 that I was a partner in. It's important to realize that these STC's are for swapping O-320 engines with O-360, not getting an additional 20-30hp out of the O-320. The Pitts I recently sold had a Lycon engine, an...

Re: Flying photo

Having an air to air photo of your airplane is cool and a lot of folks want that. Aerial photo shoots can be pretty intense, especially when you have a photographer giving instruction to get the subject in the right position, it's a step beyond simple formation flight. If it is something you want, I...

Craigslist now has an aviation section and you should be able to find some good deals there.

WDD wrote:If you take an SLSA to ELSA, can't you then do what you want to it? Put another motor in it, etc.

Why bother taking it to EAB?
One can not move a SLSA or ELSA to E-AB. E-AB is specifically for those that build at least 51% of an aircraft.

Re: Speaking of oldies and goodies!

I soloed in N9894J in 1986.

Last time I saw her was the early 90's, sitting next to a hangar sans wings, engine or dignity. Brought a tear to my eye.

Evektor offers both Dynon and Garmin. So you'd have to ask the FBO which setup is in the plane.

Re: Moving from Steam Gauge Cockpit to Glass Cockpit

If you know the manufacturer of the avionics, you might want to check out their website for a simulator. That helped me when a friend put a Garmin GPS in his Cessna I fly occasionally.

Re: Sport Pilot & logbook requirements

(3) A sport pilot must carry his or her logbook or other evidence of required authorized instructor endorsements on all flights.

Absence of any specific description of what is acceptable FAA evidence, a picture on your phone or a paper photocopy of the endorsements would suffice.

Re: Can a designation be changed

If you found the right FSDO willing to work with you, you might be able to achieve what you want with the 150. However, regardless of what was done in the past, in 2018 you'll be hard pressed to find a FSDO to move a Type Certifed airplane into Experimental-Exhibition. Experimental-Restricted, maybe...

Hey Gary - If you're looking to expand your network, I'd highly suggest becoming a sponsoring partner with Flights Above. http://flightsabove.org/ It's a network of Facebook groups with 12,000 pilot members and growing rapidly. You'll get a much better response than, what will be considered, spammin...
