Re: Oil temp and taxing
I presume you are speaking about the Rotax engine? My Continental only need 100 degrees and I max at 2500 rpm.

Re: Cross Country requirement
When I took my ride with the DPE, I didn't file anything, just made the flight plan and had it charted out all on paper. I did bring my Ipad with FlyQ EFB installed and updated with my flight plan on it as well. Not that it mattered as we made it to my first or second check point and he said somethi...

Re: To turn or not to turn
I know I went up with an Ercoupe CFI (well he owned an Ercoupe years ago and he was now a CFI). Anyways we went for a flight and while on downwind as soon as we went over the numbers (we planned this on preflight) I pulled the power at TPA 1700 feet, I was flying a very close pattern and making the ...

Re: Emergency Descent
To get to the ground fast, I cut power pull back on the yoke and wiggle the wings... 1500-2000 feet per minute decent... your ears will pop.
Or maybe this is only good for an Ercoupe.

Welcome to the forum. I am sure someone here will be able to answer questions as they come up. Some very smart Pilots/CFI's/DPE here.

Re: 3600 lbs gross for LSA ?
No, you better have him DO your oil changes. Is there a regulation that allows Sport Pilots to work on standard certificated aircraft? IDK. I know for my annual I did 90% of the work and he inspected and signed it off. He said that he can designate anyone to do the work as long as he inspects it.

Then I guess I better have my A&P IA friend sign off my oil changes from now on.drseti wrote:Part 43 specifically says a PP or above can perform preventive maintenance (a specific list of tasks is provided) on a certified aircraft he or she owns.

Re: 3600 lbs gross for LSA ?
Can they do that now? IDK. If not, then there is no reason to think this is correct. Just because a standard certificated airplane falls within the LSA definition, it is still a standard certificated airplane. The only difference is it can be flown by a Sport Pilot or other pilot exercising Sport P...

Re: training in Ohio
Sporty's used to have an LSA, don't know if they still do. They were in Cincinnati. Where exaxtly? I'm from the Cleveland area originally, there used to be a flight school out of Burke Lakefront, but that was years ago.... I trained at Sports (Clermont County Airport KI69) Sadly they sold it about ...

Re: training in Ohio
Not sure about Northern Ohio, but I know of a couple in Cincinnati Area. My local flight school Hogan Flying Service (HAO) (my son is flying there) has a Cub they train in. Also (I66) Clinton County Airport has an LSA they train in.
I am sure there are others.

Not that I am that knowledgeable on these things; but if the engine is running good at full throttle but just doesn't get to the RPM you want, could it not be the prop? Either too long or pitch is wrong?

Re: Gleim Sport Pilot Home Study - my procedure
Renewal? That stinks. I purchased the Sporty's online PPL course even thought I was going for sport (it included both) it may have cost a bit more, but it is lifetime (not sure if my lifetime or theirs).

Re: Non light sport aircraft.
Yes and no, you can do training in basically any aircraft you want to spend the money training in, but without a 3rd class medical you can only solo in an aircraft that meets the LSA requirements, and you can only take your exam with the DPE in an aircraft that meets the LSA requirements.
