Re: Night flying a Rotax UL

I have a Rotax 914-equipped Tecnam Astore - it has the "night package," which allows night flight per the ASTM requirements if the pilot is otherwise qualified to fly at night (e.g., a current private pilot license and meeting the medical requirements). Sport pilots can't fly at night even...

Re: You've got to be kidding!

It actually happens more often than you think with the airlines ... Especially at night or in low IFR. Guys are vectored in by ATC, report having runway in sight and then notice that they are off the GPS course slightly but they ignore it because the see the lights straight ahead ... What they don't...

Re: Rotax carb heat?

I can't speak about Tecnams with a 912ULS, but the 912iS models don't have carbs so no carb heat. The 914 turbo has the Bings but doesn't have an inter cooler, so the waste heat goes directly into the carburetor, keeping it nice and warm. Therefore, no carb heat on the 914 Tecnams. I believe the sam...

Re: Signed a contract today ...

Greetings all! Just to close the loop on this thread, I picked up my plane in Sebring at Tecnam's facility this week; flew it back with the Tecnam sales manager and combined transition training and flight review on the trip plus training before and after. As a result, it took 2 days (plus training b...

Re: CNN: How I got a pilot license in 12 days

I thought it was a nice article overall, I give the guy some credit for commitment ... and it speaks well of sport flying generally. Might motivate a few folks to do it ... and at least he is also committed to going forward with his PPL and then instrument, so that's a plus in terms of him not just ...

Re: Who Can Fly Your LSA?

Thanks Tim, that's good to know ... I'm ok with it as is for now, but I may change it down the road or at renewal. At present, I don't know of anyone other than a CFI that I would let fly it without me... not yet anyway!

Cheers

Re: TL3000 Sirius vs Tecnam P2008

Where do you live? Maybe we can help you find a P2008 that's not too far ... but in fairness, I had to do my demo rides in Minnesota (where I was going anyway but not to the same city - Mankato), and Pennsylvania for the Bristell (I was headed to NY for business). I live in Houston. Some of these co...

Re: TL3000 Sirius vs Tecnam P2008

*eye roll* ... wait, you didn't want that ... *laughing* and just kidding ... Both are fine planes. The CT is a high wing with a chute also. There are a number of P2008 owners on this forum and others who both have (and do not have) chutes ... and like Cluemeister, I don't want to re-start the gross...

Re: Best Company for LSA Insurance

Just bound a policy today for my new Tecnam with AIG. Low time pilot, and "rusty" to boot, with very little time in the last 12 months. OPW discussed in the OPW thread but basically any private pilot is covered ... But not sport pilots. No time in type or minimum hours requirement. The tec...

Re: Who Can Fly Your LSA?

I just bound a policy with AIG for my new LSA, and the OPW allows any private pilot to fly it. Not sport pilot, a private pilot. No time in type requirement however. Falcon tells me that for other pilots I can get a specific approval. My other choice was Old Republic, which had a more complex proces...

Re: How close to a bird strike?

This is one of the bird strike reports that is amazing to me - Australian pilot took an eagle through the windscreen, into his face... injured, could barely see, and got down in one piece ... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3376874/Pilot-describes-terrifying-moment-EAGLE-smashed-windscreen.h...

Re: An 1800 lb LSA?

As long as nobody makes comments about chubby sport pilots we're all going to get along fine ... 8) I find this all to be completely ridiculous; there is simply no safety-related justification for this or the Icon decision. Pure lobbying muscle ... and frankly, it continues to undercut the whole 132...

Re: What would you do?

As noted above, the reverse can be true - wheels down in a water landing is just as bad. I saw the results of that recently at my home A&P shop. It happened to a Searey that landed at Hooks (busy GA airport in Houston) - the airport built a "water runway" parallel with the two asphalt ...
