Re: Dream plane

Roger and Nomore, thanks for taking the time to post replies this morning. That's all great feedback and very helpful real world info especially on whine choice, prop pitch and DA Roger I agree that the 915 is not going to be a big factor in the US-LSA market. And congrats on the Vans Nomore!! Congr...

Re: Dream plane

Nomore, did you wind up with the Sirius 3000 about which you posted a while back? If so, how did you spec it out? Empty weight? Apologies if you posted this elsewhere and I missed it ... On your other Sirius thread, you observed the difference between sales people quoting figures but not the trade-o...

Re: Air conditioning?

I think that the Flycool is about 40 pounds all-in with the second alternator, maybe a bit less. And it may be over $10k although I can't find much specific about pricing. The Icebox is basically a modified Igloo beer chest, which tips in at 10 lbs empty plus whatever ice bags you are using (perhaps...

Air conditioning?

Anyone considered using a portable (e.g., Icebox from Aircraft Spruce or Sportys) or installed A/C unit (e.g., AMT Flycool) on their LSA? Here in Houston, at least, it's damn hot on the ramp May-September and even upstairs in the summer ... http://www.amt-aero.com/flycool.html http://www.switchboxco...

Re: Dream plane

Thanks, Clue! Agree that the 912iS and 914 weights are approximately the same, according to the Rotax website (when you add all the weights up that they have on the spec sheets). My chute weight was just based off the various order forms for Bristell and the Astore; I think the latter uses the Magnu...

Re: Dream plane

Resurrecting this thread, if folks don't mind, as I'm in the market ATM ... Being more of a low-wing fan, I found this thread interesting and wondered if folks still had any thoughts around this topic. On the low-wing side, I'm considering the Bristell and the Tecnam Astore (which was just coming ou...

Re: Senate passes pilot bill of rights 2

July 15 is not a "deadline." That's just the date on which the interim FAA funding bill runs out. They can always adopt another interim funding bill... The real pressure on the House comes from the 95-3 vote in the Senate - not much major bipartisan legislation coming out these days ... th...

Re: Howdy y'all from Houston!

Thanks much! Turns out that Tecnam has a dealer/school in Orlando, a short flight from Sebring, which runs a LSA/PPL flight school using only Tecnam aircraft. They have the required time in type and Tecnam will do a delivery at the school ... and if the sale is run through the school, up to 25 hours...

Howdy y'all from Houston!

Been lurking for a few weeks and reading the collective wisdom of this group ... First post! First of all, this past week in Houston has made me wonder whether I should be considering an LSA or a submarine ... but I digress... I'm in my mid-, edging towards late-, 50s - "rusty pilot"...
