How's the FBO there? I have business down there about once a year, or once every other year...toying with the idea of flying myself down the next time I go.
Nice folks, good service. It was really busy when I was there during the tourist season year before last.

Gyroplane record attempt

FYI for anyone who may be interested in gyroplanes, a couple of Texas pilots have set out to establish a world speed record for a two-seat, open-cockpit gyroplane over a recognized course. The attempt, sanctioned and monitored by the National Aeronautic Association, has three legs, including a trans...

Re: UAV Operators and Sport Pilot Certificates

Several of the recently approved Section 333 exemption applications I've seen are written so their UAS operators only need to pass an aeronautical knowledge test at that level - and don't need to go through the flight training portion. Now that makes way too much sense, so I expect the FAA to put a...

Re: Congress on medical

I sent some encouragement to support the PBOR2 to my two Senators and my Congressional Representative, none of which are a sponsors of the bill -- yet. That was yesterday. Today, probably coincidentally, I got a call from the office of my representative inviting me to participate in a "town hal...

I believe so.

People are not going to get the hots for one, as I did, if they're not exposed to one - as I was at Oshkosh 2006.
Yep, that's likely true. Nevertheless, I feel a little fevered.

Those of you who were there, what were your impressions of Sport Expo this year?

Fast Eddie B, did I understand correctly that Sky Arrow was exhibiting there?

Thanks.

Re: Gyroplanes

Summary: The autogyro experience is very similar to a helicopter, but somewhat easier to operate. Personally, I would have to do some training in the gyroplane to decide if that was something that I wanted to continue with. Thanks for sharing your impressions, and when you pursue the training, I'd ...

Re: Gyroplanes

One of the things that intrigues me about the type is the relatively high wing loading that allows them to be less effected by choppy conditions. On the other hand, the consequences of unloading the disc are a little concerning. Everything's a compromise. Apparently there is a dealer just south of ...

Re: Gyroplanes

Ira, I am in the learn-about phase. I've done a little research online and have had an interest in this type of vehicle for some time now. No question they have been slow catching on but I think they could be a part of personal flying which grows significantly in the next few years. I can envision ...

Hi Dale

I'm currently between gyroplanes and hope to be in another one soon.

What's your interest in gyroplanes? Fly one? Have one? Want one?

Re: What will change for YOU if the medical changes go throu

Ira, Is it just my (mis)perception, or does the rotor disc of a gyroplane contort much more than that of a helicopter in the various flight regimes? Particularly at takeoff, it sure seems like that disc is bending up into the shape of a warped salad bowl. It always reminds me of someones baseball c...

Re: What will change for YOU if the medical changes go throu

Welcome to the forum, Ira - it's nice to see you posting here. As it happens, I bought your book a few months back, and have enjoyed it immensely. Although I am not gyroplane rated (and actually have yet to fly one), I've been friends with Ralph Taggart (father of the Gyrobee) for about 40 years, a...

Re: What will change for YOU if the medical changes go throu

I enjoy flying different kinds of aircraft, including fixed-wing, but especially rotorcraft. Gyroplanes are a lot of fun and if new regulations allowed flying them without a medical, I'd also fly helicopters more.
