Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?
The Ercoupe at Clermont is owned by Dan McCaffrey and I have flown with him as a student. The people at Clermont can give you his number. The Skycatcher at Harford County is owned by the fbo and have a couple of instructors available.

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?
Clermont was formerly Cecil County Airport, it is just south of Elkton MD, only about 30 minutes from Philly. Harford County is not a bad drive because it is just off I-95.

Medical Reform
How will the medical reform affect the sport pilot? Will sport pilots be able to get checked out in larger aircraft or will they still be required to get the private rating but without a medical?

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?
I don't know if you found anything yet, there are a few choices if you are living south of PHL. There is New Garden just past Kennett Square PA, Harford County Airport has a Cessna Skycatcher, and there is an Ercoupe at Clermont that the owner will train in.

Belite as EAB
I would really like to build an RV-12 but know I can not afford to spend $70k on an airplane at this time. I can afford to build a Belite Ultra Cub with a ½ VW for power for about $15k. It looks like a really nice kit and comes close to meeting my mission (I would like more speed). As I live in the ...

Re: Hello from Philadelphia, PA
Cecil County airport is just down 95 south of Elkton MD. They have a private instructor teaching in an Ercoupe. I don't have his name or number handy but the FBO should be able to help you out.

It is very expensive but I hope to cut the costs some by building my aircraft. There are some very nice kits available that can be built in about a year for between $40 to $70K, if you have the time to work at it. That’s still not cheap but as the builder you can do your own maintenance and annuals ...

I think they can be already, but 20 hours isn't a whole lot of time for a rookie to get to know the airplane they'll take for the checkride, and the 5 hours of savings is probably not worth the trouble. ] I will look into this, I know I will be going way over 20 hours to complete my training as my ...

Something that would help the problem would be to allow hours training in a non-LSA aircraft (C-152) to be applied to your SP training time. Basic pilot skills and navigation can be learned and practiced in any suitable training type aircraft. A current PP only needs to get checked out in the type L...

Thanks for all of the replies. I visited Sebring yesterday and got to look over two of my three choices. I tried on and looked over the CH-650 and RV-12s with both the Rotax and Viking engines. Both the RV and the Zenith felt about the same to me for comfort and ease of getting in and out. I did not...

Help me chose a kit
I will be going to Sebring next week to help decide what kit I would like to build. I am looking for your thoughts and experiences on things I should look at to help my decision. The aircraft that meet my mission are the RV-12, Zenith CH-650 and the Sonex. The factors driving my decision are useable...

Wanna, Some say it is a waste of time and money to only fly once every few weeks but I disagree. My flying budget is tight right now but look at it as at least I'm flying. I will probably not be able to finish my training until I can put more effort (money) into a few flights a week but my instructo...
