Re: ...to a certain degree
Many LSA's make fine training aircraft for Private Pilots. Compared to traditional training aircraft they are generally less expensive to operate so the rental rate can be lower. They generally have better avionics as well. Probably half my students are working toward their Private.

Re: Cessna 162 SkyCatcher shipment decline
Regarding the -1, DJ looks as registrations in the faa.gov database. So technically these figures are based on the number of registered aircraft per period and not sales per se. I guess a Tecnam bit the dust last year.

Re: Cessna 162 SkyCatcher shipment decline
As pointed out above, DJ only reports totals. Flight Design sold most of their planes years ago when the LSA market first opened up. I think a more useful metric is number of new sales per year. I pulled the following from DJ's totals over the last four periods and calculated the sales for first and...

I spoke with a pilot who witnessed the accident and she reported that the Remos was coming in to land at high speed. Near the end of the runway the Remos pitched down and impacted the ground. The accident pilot reported that he had elevator problems. I surmise that the elevator got stuck at a near n...

Jack, I don't know if you seen it but the CarbonCub is an LSA specifically for that back country type of flying.

For me it's simple, to give our students training for their Instrument Rating in our LSA's. While there is no regulatory requirement that we take students into IMC, I believe it is irresponsible not to do so. Currently we can do the instrument training as long as we stay VMC, but the students need t...

The marketing agreement between Piper and CZAW gave an increased legitimacy to the LSA market. For that I'm grateful. Their exit is unfortunate. At the same time we cannot lose sight of the fact that the SportCruiser and PiperSport are the same aircraft. Sales and support of the PiperSport was alway...
