Which is wider......Taylorcraft BC12-d or an Aeronca Chief?

I'll be training in a T-Craft, then transitioning to a Jabiru J-250 and doing my check ride in that. (The T-Craft is too small form my 250#, fuel AND a pilot examiner.

So once done, I'll have my Sport Pilot ticket, Tail Wheel endorsement and fixed wing slow and fixed wing fast (sorry dont know the proper endorsement terms).........

Then I'll be looking at purchasing an older tail dragger. 90% of my flying will be me solo - hanging out and flying the dawn patrols or afternoons around the state...the other 10% of the time Fair wife will scrunch into the T-Craft/Chief with me (@100# we can take full fuel with her there too).

My question is for those RARE times Fair Wife tags along. She loves me, but she doesn't want me to smother her, so the widest side by side is my end goal. For any other times where I need to haul the dog or another big guy, I'll rent the J250).

Is one cockpit cabin wider than the other? I'm STRICTLY looking at CHIEFS or TAYLORCRAFTS ONLY.

Thanks,

Sean

If I had a hundred grand sittin' around I'd pop for a new shiny white plastic speed demon...but I'm on a budget and the cruise rate on the 65+ year old planes is just fine for me....just my speed. :)

I've been working on a tailwheel endorsement in a 1946 Champ that flies about 70kts.

My point is that even the fastest LSA's only go about 100kts.

The fastest STANDARD CATEGORY aircraft have a hard time making 100 KTS...the new ASTM Category Flight Designs, Jabiru's, Rans and a host of others can knock 120 Knots out like nothing.

My point of my original post was that I would be receiving Logbook "augmented" privileges in the following categories:
1. Fixed Wing Airplane (land/Sea): VH of LESS THAN 87 Knots (Taylorcraft - or in your case your CHIEF)
2. Fixed Wing Airplane (land/Sea) VH of GREATER THAN 87 KNOTS (Jabiru J250) -
3. Tail Wheel Endorsement (not a Sport Pilot Class/Category but most important for the insurance company and the flying club where I belong).

When someone gets a Sport pilot certificate, it will be issued without category/class designation — Individual logbook endorsements will be provided for category, class, make and model. So if you check ride in a Chief, that's all you can fly (Airplane land/sea LESS THAN 87 knots).

I dont know who told you that all LSA's just putt around...there's some serious screamers/legitimate cross country cruisers out there. Chiefs, Champs, T-Crafts and Cubs.....they're all of the LOW AND SLOW Variety...and for many of us.....just fine....but a little 120 knot action now and then never hurts!!!
