A Good Day

Post by 3Dreaming »

Yesterday was a good day. My youngest son who turned 16 the day before earned his private pilot certificate in gliders. Then later in the day he made his first solo flight in an airplane. At this moment he could be the youngest certificated pilot in the USA.

Within the same 24 hour period he also got his drivers license. If the wind hadn't been gusting to around 25 he would have done all 3 on his birthday.

No, Tom, yesterday was a GREAT day! Congratulations to you, Nick, and your dad (who I'm sure is as proud as you are).

I'm sure he is. He called yesterday afternoon to see how things went.

Congrats! Your son will be a better person for this, and not just as a pilot. While other kids his age have their eyes glued to their smartphones, he’s out there experiencing the real world. 8)

Congrats to your son! Is that a K-13 sailplane? I soloed in one back in the early 80's in the UK.

Yep a K13. He split most of his solo glider time between the K13 and a K8. Now he will check out in the clubs Twin Astir, Astir C/S, and K6. He is also working on the restoration of his own Scheibe L-Spatz 55.

I don't know. He is a very busy kid. He only does one forum that I am aware of, vb.taylorcraft.org . He is a member there because he has produced and sold a Taylorcraft calendar the past 3 years to help fund his glider flying.
