Flew from KGVL up to KGMU again today for another $300 cheeseburger. Had a nice little flight on a beautiful day. It seems that's the only place I fly anymore and each flight feels like it makes less sense than the previous one, but it's still fun and something I enjoy. Oh well, we shall see.

Sounds to me like what you need is a change in the routine. Maybe an out and back to Kitty Hawk or Key West or Oshkosh or wherever your little heart desires. Might re-stoke the passion just a little!

I have finally decided to hang up my wings at the end of November. My budget is getting squeezed tighter and tighter and I don't want to spend IRA and Roth IRA money to rent an airplane. I just did a large Roth conversion and will do one each year for the next 4 or 5 years to get out from under RMD's and before tax rates go back up. I may be back in a year or two when my wife's 7 figure ship comes in, but maybe not.

In the mean time, I'm done here and on CT Flier. So long and happy flying.

If you’re still lingering, let me know if you ever want to go up in the Sky Arrow.

Speaking of which, Eddie - I'm going to need your help. I have a be student who wants me to instruct him in his Sky Arrow. (Sorry for the thread drift, folks...)

Good luck, Jim. One way or another it happens to us all at some point.

With all this talk of possibly increasing MTOW for LSA, I have decided to hang on a little longer. I think I will renew my Flight Review in October and insurance in November and fly about 2 hours per month for the foreseeable future. I think my budget can handle $300 per month for a while until our ship comes in (actually my wife's ship), or I am finally able to walk away.

On a sad note, there was a fatal plane crash early this morning at my home town airport in Lincolnton, NC. (KIPJ). Two guys took off very early on the way to Oshkosh in a PA32 in what appears to have been low IFR. Evidently, per the news reports, they were not instrument rated, but I don't know that for a fact. They crashed a few hundred yards to the side of the runway as if maybe they were circling back to land at low altitude, IDK.

Tim, glad to read you’re hanging in there a bit longer. Hopefully things will work out and you’ll be able to continue flying.

Just to clarify, I'm sure Eddie meant he's glad to hear you're sticking around, not glad to hear about the accident. At least, that goes for me.

Yes, for sure. Thanks.

Once I get a new Flight Review and pay another year's insurance, I can simply play it month to month and continue flying as long as I fly enough to stay safe and don't feel like I'm simply burning through money for no logical purpose.
