Eddy,
I'm sure you already thought about this, but what is the biggest general aviation airplane you could fit into that hangar?

Probably anything with a 40 foot wingspan would fit OK.Wm.Ince wrote:Eddy,

Re: Pole Barn progress!
42’ hangar doors seem fairly typical for GA hangars, accommodating planes up to Bonanza or Cirrus-sized.
And I was about to post about planes able to operate out of 1,700 grass strips not likely to be larger than that.

For everybody's info:
I just deleted a couple of off-topic posts from this thread. There are other, more appropriate forums for political debate. This one is reserved for sport flying discussions.

I saw a lightly loaded King Air take off from a 2000ft grass strip, so I think Eddie will be cool with whatever he wants within reason.Sling 2 Pilot wrote: And needs less than 1700 feet to take off and land

We used to operate C-12's (King Air 200's) out of Baumholder Army Airfield (1877 feet), Germany, on a routine basis. No big deal.MrMorden wrote:Sling 2 Pilot wrote:I saw a lightly loaded King Air take off from a 2000ft grass strip, so I think Eddie will be cool with whatever he wants within reason.
C-12 was an awesome airplane.

Re: Pole Barn progress!
Last week has been mostly grading and moving a bunch of dirt around, and working on HVAC ducting:
The ducting on the garage side, seen here, can stay exposed.
Waiting on some special order windows to arrive to finish the siding.
Slow but steady progress does it.

Re: Pole Barn progress!
Quick trip up and back yesterday.
Good news:
They're moving mountains of dirt around still.
To avoid trucking it elsewhere, the owner of the strip is using the extra to fill in next to the runway for future construction:
The septic tanks (septic and pump tank) have been set and the drain field started:
The "grey water" has to be pumped uphill to the only good location for the drain field.
Now, the bad news:
The framing inspector says that as a "garage", that area needs to be "finished". That means drywall over all the wood portions and a ceiling installed, and drywall over the OSB we were going to leave bare:
Needless to say, a lot more expense.
In addition, the windows in the stairwell have to go, unless fireproof versions can be found. Same for the sliding glass door we had intended for access from the house.
Sigh.

Re: Pole Barn progress!
Living the dream Eddie, looking great.
You could always remove the windows and slider, drywall over the holes for the inspection and/or CO and then cut out the drywall and reinstall the windows and slider afterwards. (but you didn't hear that from me)
Fire rated windows and slider? Are you installing "fire rated" drywall in the hangar also? Fire rated windows and doors are really a moot point if you are not. Just sayin'

Let me just say I hear where you're coming from on all counts.ShawnM wrote:Living the dream Eddie, looking great.

Enough said.

Just look at it as if the new house is a S-LSA and he’s going to convert it to E-LSA.
