Only $389,000 for Icon A5

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

CBS Evening News just reported no distress calls.

I'm confused - apparently there was an accident reported here yesterday? I see oblique references to it, following a post that was edited twice, with no mention of an accident still posted. So, I don't know the story. Somebody please fill me in.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.

A famous retired baseball pitcher was killed yesterday in an ICON A5 accident off the coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico - it’s all over the news.

Representative account here:

I thought the “Fake News” comment was in poor taste, but fail to see it as “right-wing idiocy”.

It appears the CBS News account was correct, and the reports of distress calls were mistaken.

Way too tragic to turn into something political.

Two fatal crashes with barely 20 planes in service. Even if this recent incident is also ruled 'Pilot Error" by the NTSB, coupled with the ridiculous recent price increase, I strongly doubt the Icon A5 company will survive the fallout.

I hope I'm proven wrong, by all accounts it actually is a pretty sweet LSA.

I'm confused. I see no political reference other than yours. If this is based off of Eddie's post, I thought you were both from the same side of the isle. No offense to either of you if I was wrong on my notion.
So my question is why do you turn everything into something political, when it is not?

I had not considered that, other than the fact that I enjoy Neil Cavuto's FOX News show at 4P, and that I quoted Cavuto's comment.

I assumed he was triggered by the "Fake news" jab.

You never really know what triggers it. It could have been the "Fake news" comment, it could have been your quote.

I will like to see the NTSB report. I seem to remember, early on in the testing and development phase of the Icon A5, an incident of leakage and swamping caused by a "hard landing" on the water. It appears Roy Halladay's accident happened on the water also. Most unfortunate. Maybe this was something similar?

Concur 100%.
The NTSB will thoroughly investigate and present the facts and analysis. Everything else is just speculation.

As you suggest, this airplane does have some history. Up to this point, I would say it has not been very impressive.

That video kind of settles it , doesn't it ?
Even if it was an engine failure , being so low and without any margin of error still would count as a pilot error.
