New Flight Design low wing announced KLA-100

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

New Flight Design low wing announced KLA-100

Post by ct4me »

It's too late for April Fools, so this must be legit... on their Facebook page and at Aero show in German, Flight Design USA has announced a new aircraft, the KLA-100. Not much info is known yet. Just who will produce and sell the aircraft is unclear, as there are three different Flight Design entities, FD Germany, FD USA, and the new AeroJones Americas.

The wings look very long, almost motor glider long.

Will be interested to see weight & performance data. Also curious if a BRS is going to be included.

In a translated article from a Korean business publication, it stated there would be a parachute. It looks like maybe the "post" in the center, behind the seats could be the chute's home. ***edit**** a "Stratos" parachute...

Excellent! Having flown with one for a few years, I think that is becoming a "must have" feature for me.

I'm not sure I'd like that sloped footwell.

What's with the cable and turnbuckle strung against the port sidewall?

I'll bet that's a rudder cable and there's a matching one on the other side.

Form follows function and all that!

The CT series has a slope to the footwell too. It kind of sucks, it's hard to keep your feet off the pedals when you are just cruising along straight and level. There is nowhere for your feet OTHER than on the pedals. It's the most fatiguing part of flying my airplane long distances.

Nice... curious about performance with the high aspect ratio wing. Impressive.

More info is becoming available... this aircraft could become a big deal, with all that is behind it. The S.Korean government, along with Konkuk University and 10 other institutions have spent around $25 million developing this aircraft. It appears that there is development and manufacturing happening in both S.Korea and in Germany/Ukraine. I'm guessing the Asian market will be serviced by the Korean arm, while the US and Europe will be handled by Flight Design. Korean news reports say that it will go on sale in Oct, and they expect 50 to be sold by next year (Asian market). Not much is known about FD's plans, except that they are working on flight tests and certifications.
