Gyroplane record attempt

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Gyroplane record attempt

Post by RotorRambler »

FYI for anyone who may be interested in gyroplanes, a couple of Texas pilots have set out to establish a world speed record for a two-seat, open-cockpit gyroplane over a recognized course. The attempt, sanctioned and monitored by the National Aeronautic Association, has three legs, including a transcontinental trek from the west coast to the east.

The two pilots are flying a Magni M-16 gyroplane, which is similar to the red Magni M-22 pictured in the upper right of the collection of four gyroplanes on the cover of the book below.

There's a website for the record attempt at http://www.gyrotrips.com (see the link "Capraro-Dabbs World Record") and a link there to follow their flight track.

Quite the rage in Europe, I understand, but not real common in the States. They've certainly come a long way since the Benson Gyrocopter. Maybe their success will spark a revival.
