The Wall Street Journal reports:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1196211 ... lenews_wsj

"Lewis Campbell, Textron's chairman and chief executive, said in an interview that lower manufacturing costs in China would allow Cessna to sell the airplane for $71,000 less than it would if it had built the plane at its factories in Wichita, Kan."

Cessna wouldn't have entered the market with a $180,500 S-LSA. What would thay have sold, maybe two?
Dumb

I mean, duh???

one prototype and one static test article would probably have been it.

Anybody remember the Cessna 620 four engine corporate airplane built in the 50's.

Probably not. They built the prototype. Had it flying and tested ready for production. Looked like a huge 310 with a cabin fuselage.

The share holders and directors got wind of it and did not approve because of cost estimates and concern of cheaper competition with surplus airplanes.

They took the engines out and bulldozed the whole thing. then dumped all the files, blueprints, engineering, PR models, photos everything in the trash.

No trace was left.

It was a good airplane. Could have grown into a cessna competition for the King air with two PT-6.

We may be seeing the same thing with the 162

This may explain the apparent "halt" in SkyCatcher comments at the Cessna website. From their homepage:

Administrator Note

With the announcement of our intentions to build the Cessna SkyCatcher in China, we have received a substantial amount of commentary on our blog, “Cessna Announces Manufacturing Facility for SkyCatcher.” While most of the comments have been within the rules of the User Guidelines for the site, we have received a number of non-conforming replies, necessitating a temporary halt in postings.

"non-conforming replies"?

Just saw an annoucement that Liberty Aerospace is going to have Anyang Angel aero (3A) build the XL-2 in China.

It will meet full Part 23 and Chinese aero standards.

Expecting production of 100 per year. They have a Chinese order for 600 and plan on building 800 before Chinese airspace opens in 2010.

How long do u think it will take Anyang Angel to pilfer all of Liberty's intellectual property ( especially the intricate composite layups ) ?

Liberty is actually going to build them a factory and train them.

Won't take long.
