Southern Appalachian Fly-In (take 2)

Fly-Ins are excuses for pilots to go somewhere and eat. Airplanes. Food. What else could you ask for? Know of an upcoming fly-in? A great $100 hamburger? Don't keep it a secret. Share it here!

Southern Appalachian Fly-In (take 2)

Post by FastEddieB »

Weather is looking better for this weekend (Karen and I were in Florida last weekend).

Let's try again - how about Saturday at noon? I'll plan to get to Copperhill (1A3) at 11AM - love to hook up with anyone who can make it by to kick some tires, tell some lies and maybe fly in each other's planes.

And lunch at El Rio if anyone's hungry!

Here's hoping!

I think I have an EAA meeting I have to be at at 10am...I will try to zoom up after that. I'll let you know more as I figure it out.

Yes, several tiedown spots available.

Looking like gorgeous, almost fall-like weather.

I got permission to hop over to Blue Ridge Skyport (57GA) if anyone wants to try landing there.

Not too tricky with 3,000' of runway, but the trees make it interesting:

One could not ask for a nicer day!

If anyone wants to bop over for lunch or whatever, please do. I'm headed to the airport in about 10 minutes.

After lunch I'll probably hang around until at least 4 or 5,

Fly safe!

Well, looks like that didn't work out.

Flyigforfun is rightfully concerned about forecast 18k gusts, Flocket had other plans and I've yet to hear from MrMorden.

I'm headed over to Blue Ridge Skyport (57GA) solo to get the rust off my cylinders. If anyone wants to touch base either there or here later let me know. [email protected].

That's cool.

But it did turn out to be absolutely beautiful flying weather.

Visited my friend Dan at the Skyport and chatted about this and that, then flew home.

Will post a video shortly.

As promised:

Quick and dirty video here (best on 720p HD and full screen):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3IHXLUx ... AUSLfkBO7w

Kind of shaky with my baseball cap mount, and the reflections suck, but you'll get the idea.

Again, not the best landings. And the very detail oriented might notice something I forgot to do!

The forecast was correct. Winds were G18 at GVL at 11AM. They were G15 at PDK. We ended up flying to CSG, but it was a bumpy ride. The flight home was much better. Thanks again for trying to coordinate Eddie!!! We'll get'r done soon!
