I went to PA a couple years ago and purchased some airplanes. Two in Tittisville and one in Erie. When in Tittisville we had a couple of those black hawk looking hellis fly by. One was going at a walking pace just inchs off the deck he then put it on its tail and climbed straight up, then went inverted or upside down then pulled negitive G's to bring it right side up. It was something I have never seen nor have I ever seen since. I just stood there in shock as this pilot did this in a helli.drseti wrote:Dave,

I later found out my mothers family moved from Italy and settled in PA before her dad moved to Illinois. If I would have known this I would have been looking some people up. I might have to return just for this reason.

Dave that explains why I haven't seen your plane at Butter Valley. I took a few long XCountry trips from KPTW (LOL) for breakfast. I will email you before my next visit.

As you know, Eddie, I live in rural Central PA. In this region we are served by only one airline, USAir, with direct flights to only one destination: Philadelphia. It's said that if you live in this region, and have lived a good and virtuous life, when you die you get to go to heaven. If, OTOH, you've been not so good and virtuous, you simply go to USAir.

I finally am getting around to some summary pireps about our adventure.

As an aside, I created that worksheet on my Mac at home and made sure it was in a Dropbox folder. Then, on the road, I could keep it current using an iPad app called "CloudOn", which gives you access to Excel spreadsheets and a crude form of Excel for the iPad.
Anyway, this was the longest trip we've attempted in the Sky Arrow. At or near max gross and 5,400 rpm, we were seeing about 97ktas. You can see from the average speed that headwinds came into play much more than tailwinds. Some of the average speeds are unreasonably low - those were legs like to Monument Valley where there was a lot of sightseeing. The 5.8 gph overall average should be pretty accurate, however.
I had repitched my prop for more rpm a while back. While that definitely helps on takeoff and climb, I think I saw better cruise numbers with more pitch. Before the next long cross country I may pitch it back for comparison purposes.
Only mechanical issues were the ongoing small oil leak, and a "GEN" light that would periodically start coming on at 2,200 rpm.
The Sky Arrow might not be the best cross country platform, but it served us well and we're no longer in that much of a hurry. Got to see a lot of the country up close and personal, and each fuel stop had its own story.
More later on the iPad replacing paper charts, my new LightSpeeds, and maybe a few other things that might come to mind.

During our trip to the Grand Canyon I found that I could climb faster than a CT but he had me beat by about 5 kts straight and level. (I got my new Sensenich prop on the way home...would make it pretty close now.)
My fuel burn was roughly the same at about 6 GPH. and yes, we had more head winds than tail winds.
