Pipistrel has some LSA's that have a high glide ratio. If you were to rent one, fly up to the hills, turn off the engine and soar for a while then return to the airport using the engine how would they calculate the hours rented?

In my rather limited glider experience, clock time is the basis for charges. On a powered, self launch, sustainer or similar glider clock time dry plus a requirement to top off the fuel or bring it to an agreed upon level or otherwise pay for it would seem fair. But that is speculation.

What we've been doing at Boerne is using two systems. You use the Hobbs time to pay for the engine time, and the difference between that and the onboard GPS system's time logged for the total flight is paid for at a cheaper rate for soaring.
