I'd like to go, but I waited a bit too long and now the remaining hotels are expensive or scummy. I'm not saying I won't make it, but it's looking unlikely.

If I make it I will be traveling with some others who have expressed a lack of enthusiasm for camping.

I don't know the difficulties of flying into/out of SEF during the show but what about staying a few miles north in the Lakeland area (Lake Wales, Bartow, Lakeland, Winter Haven, etc) and aerial commuting each day. Looks like a 15 minute flight.

Thanks Flocker. I was just looking for that NOTAM the other night.

FIRST TIME DOING A LARGE FLY-IN, so a few ATC questions:

Can anybody comment on how dense the air traffic is mid-week?
So you contact Lake Jackson Arrival 20 miles out, listen for updates, be prepared to circle the lake, rock wings to acknowledge ATC?

What's the usual dialog and "rock your wings" protocol from the tower?
"If necessary controllers will contact you, using your aircraft “color” and “type"...
so my Red/White SportCruiser would likely be called????

Thanks!

Here is additional information, just received from Air Boss Inc:

When you come up on the frequency 124.725 for Lake Jackson, just listen at first and if no one is talking, tell the controller your position. He will then try to find you around the lake and give you directions such as:

· Depart Lake Jackson on a 110 degree heading at a certain altitude listed on the NOTAM which is 1100’ MSL (I have attached a Graphic)
· You will fly that heading or close to it all the way to the airport
· If there is a lot of traffic, (keep your head on a Swivel and maintain VFR) they may use your type/color and ask you to follow aircraft ahead to the airport.
· Prior to reaching the airport, you will be switched over and advised to listen to Sebring Tower on 118.05.
· We do not have Radar!!
· You will then be advised to fly over the airport at your altitude, because there might be traffic below you on the downwind in the fly-by pattern
· You will enter either a right downwind for RWY 01 or a left downwind for RWY 19…depending on the wind…usually Right downwind for RWY 01
· After landing with no delay on the runway you will make a right turn off of the runway for taxi to the transit ramp where there will personnel to help you park
· Remember, there will be aircraft landing right behind you…Expedite Your Taxi and keep your head on a Swivel…
· When you get ready to depart, you call Ground Control on 121.35 for taxi and progressive taxi if needed.
· Please go to the FAA NOTAM page and read the NOTAM’s for the Airport

Remember…we are here to help you, all you have to do is ask. If you are not sure about something, ASK! Glad to hear you will be coming and hope you have a Great Time!!! I hope all of this helps, Please share with others if needed.

Could you ask your contact at Air Boss what the procedure is for an after hours arrival? i.e. before 0900 or after 1700.

Just got off the phone with AB. The field is to be treated as a standard non-towered field. (i.e. no need to fly to Lake Jackson, etc.) They did caution to remain vigilant as there may be powered parachutes buzzing around the field after 1700 and one of the runways may be closed.

Unfortunately, gang, I just found out that I have a house concert Thursday night, so I regret I won't be able to make the SportPilotTalk dinner. :(
I hope the rest of you enjoy the gathering. Thanks to Richard for coordinating.
