Perhaps I missed it in one of the earlier pages...but if you're looking for an inexpensive way to enjoy the Sport Aviation show, I wanted to point out you can camp under your wing on the field. The RAF will have a booth (inside, where the wind doesn't blow!) and our quarterback for the event is Dale Mohrbacher who will be camping under the wing of his cherry red Luscombe. Other RAF members will be attending the show and working the booth as well, looking to spread the word a bit about what we've been accomplishing around the country and testing to what extent Sport Pilots find our mission to meet some of their needs. We are doing many different things these days but they all revolve around the core purpose of opening up - and keeping open - airstrips in recreationally interesting places. After all, if nothing nourishes GA like recreational aviation, then what is recreational aviation without interesting, appealing destinations? Man can not live by $100 hamburgers alone...

Hope to meet some of you there.

I think Karen and I may be there on the 16th.

Tentative plan:

Jan 13 - Drive to Chalet Suzanne (for Karen's birthday!)
Jan 14 - Drive to Venice to camp
Jan 15 - Visit an Airstream dealer in Venice, then do an RV show in Tampa, and continue to Lake Placid to stay with friends
Jan 16 - Light Sport Expo.

Like I said, its all kind of tentative, but is firming up.

Hope to see some of you guys there - maybe do lunch!

Hope to see - and meet - you there, Eddie. Look for the RAF booth in the hangar.

Glad you're coming, Flocker. I look forward to meeting you there. I'm also staying at Inn On the Lakes (for the third time), so will maybe see you at breakfast.
Just checked the Wx for Thursday [the day I plan to fly in]:

"Sunny, with a high near 56. Wind chill values as low as 32 early. Northwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph."

You weren't kidding about it being windy!

PS - I'm at Chateau Elan. Inn on the Lakes was full. I'll find you...

Thanks! By the way, I was on the Cessna website today - the 162 is not even an after thought. Gone forever. Sad...

Karen and I are in Venice, FL, right now, and are still planning to be at the Expo Thursday.

With our Honda Element.

We just need a time and a place to meet.

I am going to try to fly an RV12. I spoke with Vans today and they said first come first served.

The young lady I spoke to did not know if there was a charge - if there is, I don't mind.

Until then...

It's obviously too late for this year, but for 2015 I'm going to ask Jana to put an official "Sport Pilot Talk Meet and Greet" in the program, with an assigned time and place.

Sorry I did 't think about this sooner.

Well, how about this last minute attempt: By 2 p.m. on Thursday most of the heavy-duty salivating will be accomplished and the feet + back will be talking to you a bit. Why not stop by the RAF booth at 2 p.m. for a short meet-and-greet. That would at least allow faces and smiles to be put with names and aircraft flown. BTW we don't run a small booth in the typical fashion - you'll see how it differs when you show up. So the chairs are for you visitors, not us booth workers.
