Glider training

I took a friend by The Chilhowee Gliderport in Benton, TN for a birthday glider ride. It was a lot of fun, we had a blast! I'm considering getting the rating now, curious if there are any glider pilots on the board here?

Morning Hirschr,


My name is Dan, new here and a glider pilot. I fly a DG-300 in upstate New York with the Adirondack Soaring Club. http://www.adirondacksoaring.com/
They can also be found on facebook which is updated more often than their web site.

Questions, concerns? As a club, it's much cheaper for us to fly than go to a commercial operation. Initial fee of $500 ($100 if under 18) which includes all instruction and use of the gliders. I learned on a Blanik L-23 but both have been replaced with Grob 103s. The club has three 103s and one Grob 102 for use once you Solo. You have to pay for your tows, $20, $25 or $30 for 1, 2 or 3000 ft.

Every year we go up to Lake Placid for a five day weekend for flying and camping right at the airport. (real quiet there) It's a good time, the photo below is me landing at LKP.

My youngest turns 14 next year. A few weeks ago I took him to our local glider club for a flight. There wasn't any lift, so it wasn't a very long flight. He is ready to start training next season, and would like to solo. Right now he want to go flying every chance he gets. We will keep working on fixed wing power until he can get back to the gliders.

Chilhowee Gliderport is in our backyard. Driven by it and flown over it many times. Never landed there.
