Is there such a thing as an ultralight pilot certificate?

I know that in the U.S., you don't need a pilots license to be an ultralight pilot but is strongly recommended that one takes training before flying a Part 103 ultralight.

If a person undergoes ultralight training, and passes all the tests, will that person be given an ultralight pilot certificate?

Like you said. you don't need a license to fly a Part 103 ultralight. To get training in a similar airplane has become virtually impossible since there are almost no two-seat ultralight-like airplanes to train with since the FAA decided to longer allow training in E-LSAs. If you go to a Sport Pilot school, all you will likely find is modern Remos-type of airplanes which will teach you very little about flying an ultralight. The very thing that the FAA set out to fix - two seat ultalight trainers - they have pretty much eliminated.

The best you could do is get some hours of regular flight training, and then some dual in a friend's two-seat experimental ultralight-like airplane such as a CGS Hawk.

So what you're saying is that I can still fly an Part 103 ultralight, but I am forced to NOT take ultralight training in a 2 seat ultralight since there are no more 2 seat ultralights and they've been converted to E-LSAs?

You never were forced to take training to fly a part 103 ultralight. The training was recomended, but it is now almost impossible to get because of the two seat trainers conversion to ELSA. The training exemption for the ELSA has now expired. Tom
