Simulated Soft Field Practice in the Sky Arrow.

I got up in the Sky Arrow today to practice soft field landings and a few Commercial maneuvers*.

I had become aware that somewhere along the line I had gotten out of the habit of carrying power into a soft field landing, so I thought I'd go practice a few.

Here's a video I just put together of a simulated soft field touch and go without the nose touching, followed by a full stop, keeping the nose up as long as desired:

Looks like about 3,000 rpm (with a ROTAX) is about right for the soft field landing.

I'll put together a video of the Commercial maneuvers which, while certainly not perfect, were a lot better than last time.

*In a couple weeks I'm going to attempt to get my CFI reinstated. Wish me luck!

As promised, practicing some Commercial maneuvers in my Sky Arrow:

Some could use improvement, but that's what practice is for!

I just realized I never thanked you for your kind offer.

My DPE said he'd be fine in the back seat for our flight.

I'm headed down to FL right after our EAA meeting this AM. Karen headed down to Malabar - south of Melbourne- yesterday in her Jeep, where we have friends to visit/stay with. Weather permitting, tomorrow down to Hollywood and Monday morning is the checkride. Then wander back home as the weather allows.

I'll keep you all informed of our progress.

Thanks again.

Made it safely to Valkaria airport (X59), just south of Melbourne.

Headwinds all the way, and a few storms to circumnavigate, but fun nonetheless.

If all goes well, on to Hollywood tomorrow.

Have a great checkride, Eddie. It'll be great to have you back in the CFI ranks - should I reserve you now for a Flight Review in Jan 2018?

Thanks! And apparently not.

Just to let everyone know I made it home safely.

Nothing like your home field finally coming into view after a long day of flying!

Congrats! Glad you made it back okay. Lots of storms here today and I was wondering whether you would be able to make it out of FL.

Get your CFI reinstated and let other people pay for your flying.
