Smokey Mnt (literally), Ocoee, and 1A3

Post by hirschr »

Finally got the chance Sunday to check out 1A3, it was a scenic flight, with a little smoke on the mountain to keep it interesting. Had a nice long chat with the airport manager, good to see an older general aviaton airport making progress with a new fuel farm, hangars, and a runway re-coat! I can see why FastEddie likes the place :)

Sorry we missed you!

We were camping at Table Rock, SC. Just got back yesterday afternoon.

Starting my annual later today, so I will be around the airport a fair bit if you stop back by.

We were hoping to run into you, maybe next time.

This is a short video of our take off and climb out with the GoPro suction cup mounted to the rear window. You can really see how the smoke affected our visibility the last few seconds of the clip.

I'd be up for the vintage vs modern LSA comparison! Ride swapping sounds like a plan :)

In the first post I mentioned that the airport manager had my ear for a while during our visit, I also noticed a sign that said it was the most improved general aviation airport in TN for 2014! Here is a link for more info for anyone interested in a visit:

I'm curious FastEddieB, did the below partnership offer work out at 1A3?

I think that's the first I've heard of it.

Will be seeing Alan, the airport manager, later today and I'll ask him if there was any interest.
