Final Approach - Runway 33 - 9A0
Nice strip in the middle of the North Georgia mountains. No crew cars, but there is a local taxi service. Phone number is on the wall in the FBO building.

That's a fun airport.
For the benefit of others...
...Copperhill, TN, (1A3) is just a quick hop over some hills to the NW.
if anyone is in that area and we're around, I can come up with ethanol-free 93 octane, and/or a shuttle into town for Mexican or Pizza or Subway.
Beautiful country, as can be seen in the photo!
But the photo also shows how a north departure can get interesting if climb performance is an issue. Half-left turn for a modified crosswind departure helps, but the terrain still rises pretty rapidly.

That is a beautiful area. I haven't been there since I spent a couple weeks sneaking round in the mountains there in Dec 86.

Here's the whole approach at 9A0. The wide angle lens makes it look like I'm closer to the trees than I am, but I was "kinda" close. After that landing I changed my technique at that airport to 30° flaps (using 15° in the video) and a steeper approach that gives a better safety margin over the green stuff.

And yes, I realize I touched down on the displaced threshold. It's only there for clearance of the trees, so I didn't sweat it much.

That's a serious amount of displaced threshold on either end. I looked it up and it's just short of 700' for your approach. Seems a bit excessive given the distance from the trees.

Yeah. The trees are tall, but with good flaps and/or a decent sink rate they are not really a factor. But people fly Mooneys and such in there and they might need that shallower approach. There have been several airplanes in the trees at that airport over the years, but mostly on takeoff I believe.dstclair wrote:That's a serious amount of displaced threshold on either end.
