Rotax 850 Etec

Are you building/buying/flying an Experimental Amateur-Built (E-AB) or Experimental Light Sport (E-LSA) aircraft? Converting an S-LSA to E-LSA? Changing or adding equipment, or otherwise modifying an S-LSA? Need help with Letters of Authorization? Or maybe designing your own aircraft? This forum is the place to discuss All Things Experimental.

Rotax 850 Etec

Post by ScottyB »

I'm looking at the rotax 850Etec, rated@165hp and only weighing 47kg... around 100 lbs before a gear box problem is rpm peek is 8000
But with an electronic rev limiter rpm can be harnessed to 6700 rpm(135hp) same rpm as 582 rotax (65hp)
Any thoughts?

Since the 850 is a snowmobile engine, I doubt it has the redundancy one would want for aircraft use (two sparkplugs per cylinder, dual ignition, dual fuel pumps, etc.) I wonder if they can be converted to aviation requirements.?
