Impossible to speculate with the lack of any real information, but I can say for sure that I have had a 3,000+ hour student suprise me resulting in flooding of 2 of 5 float compartments.
It just takes a second to inflect serious damage.
Wonder if either was texting

I guess that built-in AOA indicator didn't help. Maybe it was a rogue wave?

On any aircraft accident, it is senseless to speculate until all the facts are gathered and analyzed.

Makes me wonder if the pilot signed the crazy ICON user agreement never to say anything negative about the airplane or company. If so he can't really say anything other than "it's all my fault"...

As mentioned above this happened with an Icon pilot at the controls. These thing are supposedly primarily marketed towards non-pilots. One can only imagine how they might fare when newly minted sport pilots are buzzing around the lake…

I think a little levity on an accident where nobody was hurt is okay.
