Searching for an inexpensive aircraft

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Thought I would update this. After searching on and off for a couple months now I keep coming back to the ercoupes, and after seeing the nice sample that Markp has gotten, I am even more looking.

Well I am driving to go look at one tomorrow. I have ordered the CD of the documents and even joined the ercoupe owners club. I have looked at a couple of them in person, but just didn't like the ones I seen (issues that were visible).

Hoping this one tomorrow looks better.

I wouldn't mind owning one, but would definitely need an A&P to help me evaluate it. I get nervous thinking about buying something that old.

Well I made an offer on an Ercoupe. Just paperwork and payment :D per the AP/IA all is good and the logbooks are amazingly well documented. Fires right up and flys very well. Even in a 20kts crosswind on a grass field, that was a fun landing for my first Ercoupe landing. (glad the CFI/friend of the owner was flying).

Great news on the offer submittal on the Ercoupe! I hope the offer is accepted and paperwork goes smoothly!

Well Just another update, I have paid for the plane as of Thursday and just need to make the time to drive back up to Michigan when weather and my headaches work well together and fly her home (after at least 1 hour with a CFI of course for insurance reasons).

Here are some pics. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipM ... dVTU9qVzJR

Congrats! Looks like you're in for some summer fun. Just a tip: You might consider EAA, maybe even joining a local chapter. Be sure to check out their forum. For some reason, lots of folks in EAA either own one or are very familiar with the Ercoupe, and if parts are ever needed, they can help you out.

Already an EAA member and joining the local EAA chapter this next week. Already met a few of the members and I like these guys and Gals, also there are 4 or 5 other Ercoupes already at the airport I will be hangering at and in the EAA Chapter.

Congrats! It looks great and you'll have a bunch of fun. If you ever have struggles, just remember Jessica Cox (Tucson) flies one.... without arms!

Wow, long time waiting. It has its annual done and I got to fly it home yesterday a lovely 2 hour flight at 80 kts, since I wasn't in a hurry. She "Little Red" is now sitting in my hangar at KHAO. There are 8 Ercoupes hangared at KHAO so I am in good hands.

Going over today to give her a well deserved bath and then take her flying again.

Contrats'. Just in time for the best flying season of the year.
Hope you have a lot of fun with it.

There is a continuing series of articles on AvWeb by a guy, I think his name is William DeBoise, that races his Ercoup in a sport racing league. I aways enjoy reading about these planes.
