I promised Paul a post awhile back, so I thought I'd finally share some details about my new "toy," a 1946 Luscombe 8A.
A ragwing with a fuselage tank, the old girl has a little over 3,200 hours total time, with about 45 SMOH, 10 of those (so far) added by yours truly. She's been based in IN, FL, NV, MI, WV and TN and now, SC. I flew her home from TN in mid-June, a 2.5 hour trip that included a leg over the Blue Ridge mountains near Asheville. (Well clear of Mt Mitchell.) It was a non-event, but I had a safety pilot along just in case. We made one fuel stop, but could have flown non-stop.
Fuel consumption has averaged a little over 3 gph at 85 mph IAS, fast enough for local flights and not bad for 65-HP. Maximum speed in level flight at full throttle is 100 mph IAS. I plan to cruise at 95 mph for some upcoming cross country flights, and will need to determine fuel consumption, but I expect it will be under 4 gph. She has the mogas STC and will be very economical to operate for local flights.
We are still in the "getting acquainted" phase, and there are some minor squawks to address, but overall I'm pleased with the old girl. She is nimble and a delight to fly.
Thank you, Mr. Luscombe, for designing such a fine aircraft.

Congrats, Horatio. She's a beauty.
One word of caution: the mogas STC specifies no ethanol. Make sure you test your fuel source for ethanol - EAA has a kit for that.

Re: Old school LSA
Good idea, Paul. Thanks! We have a couple local stations with non-ethanol gas.
I'm running about a 50/50 mix of mogas and 100LL at present.
