Affordable ADS-B out

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Awesome Dave. Good equipment to have! Sounds like good integration with your 796 as well.

The good news is that AOPA is now publicly stating they expect the 2020 deadline to be rolled back.

Devil's Advocate: Why is this good news? Don't we want everyone on next-gen so we can more easily see and avoid? In the Los Angeles area where I'm based I find easily twice as many planes in vicinity via ADS-B than I do just scanning out the windows.

I didn't ask specifically about the G300 but did with the G3X and Garmin support was pretty specific that only their 'certified' units provided the information to be 2020 compliant. From the G3X literature:
It’s impossible to know what GPS sensors will become available in the future to provide the necessary data to satisfy the ADS-B requirements, but the “ES” capability of the GTX 23 transponder does qualify for the rules the FAA has already published.
I assume the G3X and G300 are similar but may be mistaken.
I have to eat a bit a crow -- sort of
I had a long email exchange with Steve from Garmin Team X (developers of the G3X and experimental/LSA line of avionics) and the G3X DOES output the ADS-B appropriate position data for the GTX-330ES and GTX-23ES mode S transponders. This would be non-certified and, therefore, would not satisfy the 2020 mandate but would work in the meantime. The 795/6 does NOT output appropriate position data, though. Garmin is hoping, like all of us, that the FAA relaxes the certified requirement for VFR aircraft.

I did not ask about the Cessna specific G300.

This still would not have been a viable financial alternative for non-G3X equipped planes.

The reason I was talking to Team X was to gain an understanding of how the 795/6 filters ADS-B traffic from a ground station to ensure my Skyguard was working correctly which it is.

You should be able to use the Android Skyguard app on your Nexus.

MovingOn -- When I emailed with Don last month he mentioned an Android app was on the way. I assumed this was like the iOS app. Thanks for chasing this down.

You'll need to ask Don on the lengths as I had mine shipped directly to my mechanic who then hooked it up and hid any wires/cables.

Any chance of a Stratus 3 with ADS-B out capability?
