DESIGN STUDENT NEED INPUT

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

DESIGN STUDENT NEED INPUT

Post by scozzd »

So I'm an Industrial Design student with a love of aviation. I have my PPL with an instrument rating and I'm trying to convince my professors for my senior project to design a full size LSA. Right now everything is very conceptual and what I was hoping for was feelings on the future of LSA, and a general opinion on the direction of this project. I have images below that are early inspiration. The vision I have is using a tubular steel frame and composites to create a semi exposed airframe.

Rumor has it that the Flight Design CT2K was based on a University design. This is all a short search turns up:

Maybe the historical precedent will help you.

Oh btw something I should probably elaborate on. The full size build would not be a functioning airplane merely a full scale concept model. That said I'm trying to make it as close to theoretically flyable as I can.
