A/C in LSA?

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Multiply 45 by 12, get 540 Watts. Ron said that about 1.7 hp is used up, presumably due to inefficiencies in the alternator. Considering that driving a compressor directly usually takes 6 hp on a compact car, this is amazingly efficient. You bet I can spare 1.7 hp to make wife happier. Also, the system is off for takeoff and landing, for safety reasons. As I understand, there is no clutch, however. Depending on the way alternator is driven, there may be a belt, for a something like 0.005 hp parasitic loss.
